TOWNSVILLE pubs have run out of XXXX beer because of the Brisbane floods, forcing brewer Lion Nathan to send a shipload of the amber fluid north to replenish dwindling supplies.
McDonald's has also been forced to send a planeload of lettuce north to keep burger lovers happy in a move which is believed to have cost the company $50,000.
Restaurants across the city have been forced to take some items off their menus due to stock shortages with price hikes for fresh produce hitting businesses

This week our local paper advertised for a chicken farm handyman with 'sober habits'.

I'm not making this sheet up!

The company I work for has lost one office and another has been out of action for a week. Another office further north has been crippled as half the staff have been isolated. A project being worked on has been suspended as supplies and staff are stuck. This is lost productivity from one company but one that can handle the impact. Many smaller business are not so lucky and have laid off all their staff. Builders will do well for a year but once the recovery is over the cash will have been used in the rebuild that would have been spent elsewhere.

Government revenue has been hit through loss of resources, income
Tax, GST and I doubt QLD is getting much stamp duty revenue from housing.

There will probably be a levy to pay for rebuilding work which will hit all Australians and reduce revenue like the plasma bonus gave a boost.

I do not think we have seen much of the impact.

My first batch of home brew was tasted yesterday (Australia Day) and it came out excellent.

Second batch still to be bottled soon, like, tomorrow.

I might become a brewer.
