My 7 year old just ran in to tell me about this. They very helpfully said flooding in 'the East'. No town / area names. It must be bad if they mention it on UK news.

Hope everyone's OK.

We had a bit of rain over the holidays
There's extensive flooding in NSW & QLD, it's all good we needed a drop or two.
There's been loads of threads on the rain, floods, cyclones & storms you've just missed them

No - I saw all the threads. This was a new story saying that 'an area' (unspecified) had just been flooded out - people evacuated etc. Footage of homes under water, people being rescued. Now, this of course could be very old news, it being Newsround, I just assumed that it had happened in the last 24 hours. Very odd.

howdy all

not really remote area. roads were flooded about a mile from us. could not get to my brothers in mudgeeraba. while driving home from work on friday the traffic was stopped on the M1 as people were watching the water flowing under the motorway. it has rained pretty bad here but we needed the water. Our dam is now at 100% and overflowing. Woo Hoo

The flooding is in the north of NSW. Quite a lot of people live there and it's not the slightest bit remote .

Plenty about it in the Sydney papers: http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/...554571562.html

Here's another story from the Age
http://www.theage.com.au/news/nation...554571383.html

I did see it on TV last night. Everyone seemed calm and the SES seemed to be getting on with it.

Has the panic buying started in the UK yet?

There was one road open out of our place on Monday morning (out of 3 feasible routes), plenty of water around but no damage to property locally as far as I could see.

Down the road a few k there was extensive damage though and some people were trapped. Pays to have a good flood survey done when you're buying ...

Still quite a few properties cut off and a possibility of food drops being needed. Also lots of properties still without power/phones due to line damage.

Not out that far but getting there, we aren't quite as low-lying as that but the access roads tend to be up and down so cop it a bit.

Still get a fair few accidents on that road, they'll have to seriously upgrade it when the big Yarrabilba development goes in ... or provide a decent link east to Beenleigh.

It's not the surface that's the problem, it's the arrogant selfish drivers.
