Another significant hazard associated with flooding is from electrical components shorting out: the second most frequent cause of flood-related deaths in the USA is from electrocution - usually when people enter flooded basements. The most frequent cause is people trying to drive their cars through floodwater.

Agreed. The electrical companies here have already cut off many towns as flood waters rise and won't reconnect until every house has been checked. However its more of a problem in isolated cases of flooding where the house stays connected. Always always get the supply checked for safety.

And another stupid action, as recorded by QPS Media - Just after 6pm firefighters responded to a single vehicle rollover on the Cecil Plains Road approximately 22 kilometres from Oakey. Enroute to the incident, the appliance travelled past a “Road-Closed” sign that had been deliberately moved. The vehicle lost traction on the muddy road, spun and crashed into a ditch.
Police are investigating the crash and how the ‘Road Closed’ signs came to be moved. A number of other vehicles seen in the area driving on the muddy road will also be investigated.
Cecil Plains is completely isolated and the Cecil Plains Road is impassable.
Going around road closure signs and moving a sign is dangerous and has the potential to cause serious injury to road users. Police will continue to investigate and take action when this occurs.

Police would like to speak to anyone who has information about how the signs on the Cecil Plains Road came to be moved.

Up to date news on the wider situation:

A disaster has been declared in Theodore, Chinchilla and Dalby, as well as in Alpha and Jericho in the central west and at Warra on the Western Downs.
Flooding had subsided in Chinchilla but a second peak is expected in the town within the next two days, doubling the number of homes and business that have been flooded.
Mayor Ray Brown says more than 100 homes in Dalby have been evacuated.
State Emergency Service boats have evacuated all 10 residents from the town of Flinton on the Moonie River, south-west of Dalby.
Earlier, crews evacuated 230 residents from Theodore in Queensland's central west to a mining camp in Moura. And two army Black Hawk helicopters from Townsville travelled to Theodore to help complete the evacuation of the town's 300 residents from first light today. The town is completely submerged, with the Dawson River half a metre above the previous record.
It is estimated as many as 400 homes in Rockhampton could go underwater, while about 200 homes and businesses are expected to be inundated in Emerald.
At nearby Rolleston, record flooding has peaked three metres higher than the community has ever seen.

I know we have a few posters in remote places - hope they are all safe, and thoughts go out to the people whose whole communities are disappearing underwater. I remember the Lewes floods back home in 2000 - horrendous experience and some people never recovered from it.

I'm dry here..well unlessI go outside without a brolly! Since I didn't have much to do today I took a drive to the dam this is the amount of water pouring over the top.
