Re: Fires in Victoria
I finally got an email from my rellies. They can see the smoke from Bright and are at the ready for being evacuated.
As they live on acerage and are surrounded by bush they are taking plenty of safety measures .
My heart was in my mouth when i saw the devastation around Victoria on GMTV this morning.
I just hope there will be no casualties .
Stay safe everyone.

The no warning part is truly terrifying. They keep saying this is only the start of the season too.
Remember seeing a primary school in victoria where the principal proudly showed us a metal lined room in the event of not being able to get the kids out in time, still sends shivers down my spine. Great climate is a much overused phrase IMO.

We have woken up to smog again today but the main bulk of the fire is away from us now. Hels I hope that your hubby keeps safe, I noticed lots of CFA people from elsewhere in Vistoria around Wangaratta recently so it looks like they are calling them in to relieve the local guys. He will probably be sent over further East as that is where the bulk of the scary stuff is at the moment.
Bright has seen a lot more evacuations than the early fires so it looks like people are taking it seriously which is good.
Here's hoping that things aren't going to be quite as bad as we all feared.

Im glad you are still ok. Hubby's uncle said Bright was very bad and told us if the wind goes in the wrong direction they could be cut of in the valley near them in Albury.
I bet asthmatics are having breathing problems right now
thinking of you all

Haven't checked Vic yet, but in Tassie they are weighing up whether the risk of protecting the town of St Mary's is too great - same fire that has just wiped out part of Scamander. I remember stories of the 1967 fires - the town of Snug in south Tas was wiped out totally - every house destroyd. This is starting to sound like the same power.

My parents have very good friends in Tas and have not had contact, tried phoning but no joy.
