I can only hope that the idiots that start these fires become a victim of their own pranks and burn as hard and fast as the bush that they ignite.

Yes, I can never understand how someone will deliberatley start a fire in this environment. It really takes supidity to another level.

I was at the Joondalup and the Carabooda fires. It's been absolutely insane in the last few days.
I've got to say, seeing Lakeside Drive on fire at about 5am was a pretty spectacular sight, glad none of the properties on the other side was lost. We nearly lost our brand new (very expensive) large tanker which was being engulfed in flames until one of our fire fighters ran back to it through the flames to drive it out, what a hero! all the plastic trim and decals are melted down one side.
I was at the Dizzy Lamb park yesterday which is where the Carabooda fire started. It's an old, failed theme park/zoo, what a depressing place, like something out of Scooby Doo with old burned out see saws and swings with faded pictures of clowns on them, "Cocky World" all boarded up and a totally incinerated museum.
I'm not totally knackered with a load of work to catch up with as I've got a new (less cushy) job at the Uni.
For some great pictures of the recent fires all over Perth go here:
