Default Tumble drier has blown up!

Dangit.

There was a pop, and a smell of burning.

I've reset the fuses, emptied the machine and pulled it away from the wall. It smells at the back of the machine, but no visible burnt bits, so I suspect it is something inside.

Is it terminal or repairable do you think?

I don't want to have to fork out another $1k plus just before Christmas. (It is a condenser drier.)

Difficult to say without looking at it. Have you tried plugging it in again to see if it trips the breaker again?

At least it's summer and you can dry on the line - well when it's not raining anyway

Too scared to plug it back in. As for sunshine, it has been miserable weather here since the start of December!!

Everything can be fixed but may not be economical to do so. You can get a conventional dryer for well under $500 and just duct it out of the wall (the manufacturer usually has an extra kit to enable you do do this)

The laundry is internal, and it is over 3m to an outside wall- and not in a straight line.

Fair enough

Don't plug it back in as suggested by others - it has a definite electrical fault

Not necessarily - could be the belt that went

My house too. My tumble dryer is vented to the roof space through the ceiling.

Worth checking if it's still under warranty.

However it sounds as if motor or heater parts have gone. If you can identify and change yourself, it might be worth it (they are basically swap jobs), but if you have to get a man to look at it, it's unlikely to be economically worth it.

Google the make, model, and "repair".

Cheers Garry. The machine is one we bought when we first came to Aus 6.5 years ago, so well out of warranty.

OH took the top off and had a look, then he plugged it back in,turned it on and it went bang and blew the fuses again. Reckon something is shorting it out. Not worth the time/expense to get someone in to find what is causing the fault, so it is off to the shops tomorrow. Not sure I really wnted a tumble drier as my Christmas present!!

If it actually goes "Bang", then you should be able to see what's blown (with the power disconnected) and thus look at changing it. If it's actually a short, then it's probably buggered the electronics in the process.

It's at times like this, it pays to 'know a man'.
