Default 8.2 quake near Alaska, tsunami warning issued

Not likely to trouble Australia, but that's a pretty big quake and alerts have been issued.

Nothing out of this one, but it's woken the americans up to the cascadia fault again. And there's been a cluster of tremors near Coffs Harbour that people think might prelude a bigger one.

Yes, I've been watching those, stunning little swarm of quakes isn't it. Have to wonder if they are leading to something bigger.....

4.2 seems the biggest so far, but we're holding our breath at work, I can tell you!

Interesting bit to me is they've all been onshore, and even the very recent 4.2 is only just offshore. It almost looks like gearing up for something offshore connected with the steep shelf at that spot - almost as if a chunk is going to slide off into the sea.

Coffs Harbour : a suitably biblically end for the place....
