Hi Dreamer,
I just woke up and decided to carry on from where I left off last night.

What you have to take into account here is my standard of living. I live alone in a single room apartment, I cook for myself and I don’t go out to socialise very much, my only socialising is done through the internet, just a basic existence really.

The one thing that I have not sorted out properly in Penang yet is a cheap supply of beer there, quite important for me! That I shall have to do when I eventually live there. The cheapest that I have found so far is Royal Stout at the Giant supermarket in the Mall near the Komtar. Four cans will cost you about £4 and at 8 percent alcohol, it is quite strong stuff and has a very good taste, much better than this lager rubbish here.

So the beer factor would push the monthly cost up quite a bit more depending upon your daily intake.

Hi again Mr Legless, just got my Accountant's hat on here and wondering about your move.

If it's much cheaper to live in Penang than BKK, wouldn't it be better to take the initial hit of moving expenses and go sooner, rather than later?

What expenses would you have in moving? Could you take a coach? Sounds like you have to do visa runs anyway. Would you still need to do them from Penang, and would they be any easier/cheaper from there?

Hope I don't sound too nosey - just thinking things through on your behalf so don't feel obliged to answer.

BTW it sounds like you and Dreamer should meet up if and when you both make the move, be company for each other.

I don't have the choice of an initial hit, I wish I did. Everything that I own in the world, which is not a lot really, is in my room here so I cannot just jump on a coach or a train. As I said before on this thread, I reckon that it will cost me about £2,000 in total and that will take me at least another two years to raise.

We'd need a 40ft container to move now (and 3 cat crates! and yes it was only a year ago we used a 20ft one...) and I sometimes hark back to the day we left the UK for Singapore with a few suitcases and some boxes following (which, in hindsight, we could have left.)

One day maybe we'll sell up again and become greypackers.

I imagine that's for a very basic existence (one room flat, local food 24/7, getting the bus (which is not the most reliable mode of transport in Malaysia) everywhere, etc) Some people do not think they could sustain that.

It seems your biggest expense is the beer. Could you not give it up for a while so it would take you less time to save up the 2k you need to move?

Why not find an inexpensive girlfriend instead or even better a gf who may help out with some of the expenses

I can imagine he's had enough of GFs for the time being. Anyway, GFs like to be taken out. That'd just be an increase in expense so counterproductive.

You obviously do not know Thailand or Thai girls very well , that is the reason that I am in the mess that I am in today.

Beer is the only thing that helps me with this and I am not a drunk, it is the very least of my expences here!

Thanks katongkaren, You are so very right. Just change the quote from being 'he's had enough of GFs for the time being' to 'he's had enough of Thai GFs for life' :curse:

Thank you for posting the link. Yes, your story was definitely sad but you should move on and don't look back at it too much if you can help it.

Believe it or not I had more or less the same happening to me in UK. My one was an English girl, a devious one just like yours. I am lucky to be alive after what happened to me. So it seems you're not alone. These things happen all the time in life. In fact life is made up of lots of unfortunate things for a lot of us. We should just learn to forget and carry on for another day, otherwise we would go insane.
