Anybody got any relevant comments to make about expat living in Astana in Khazakstan, cannot be bothered with all the sarky comments I used to get from the ME forum when we lived there so havent been on BE for a long time so any grown ups' comments about Astana would be good!

Astana (Russian/Kazakh: Астана, formerly known as Akmola (Kazakh: Ақмола / Aqmola, until 1998), Tselinograd (Russian: Целиноград, until 1992) and Akmolinsk (Russian: Акмолинск, until 1961)), has been the capital of Kazakhstan since 1997, and is the country's second largest city (after Almaty, the former capital) with an officially estimated population of 708,800 as of 1 August 2010.[1] It is located in the north portion of Kazakhstan, within Akmola Province, though administrated separately from the province as a federal city area.

The current mayor of Astana is Imangali Tasmagambetov. He was appointed on 4 April 2008.

Well I've just done a search and it seems the only person who has posted about the place is you, yourself, so it would seem it isn't somewhere greatly in demand on BE.
Maybe there are other forums out there which cover it in greater depth?

Hi there, Anyone live/lived in Baku and would be interested in sharing their thoughts/observations either on this thread or by pm?

I'm considering a job option and just beginning to research it so right now I have very little idea.

I'm interested in general life stuff. Access to good food. Safety. Lifestyle. Access to good gyms/swimming pools? How easy/expensive is it to get out of the country for short breaks.

All helpful information much appreciated.
