Accomodation/flat share wanted in Hong Kong
Hi I am a sports physiotherapist and am relocating to Hong Kong on the 21st March 2004. I will be working in Central and need to find myself somewhere to live from that date or as near as possible to it.
I dont have a huge budget but would like to find a room,Id prefer ensuite, in a nice area, hopefully with a view. I wont be happy if I feel like a battery hen or a chicken in a coop!!
I would value any positive feedback/ideas or suggestions.
Thank you
Katie

Katie,
It is very difficult to offer much advice because you haven't indicated your budget.
It is not necessary to live in Central even if your office (practice) is located there. Hong Kong is such a small place, with such a fantastic public transport system, that you can just about live anywhere and commute to work in less than an hour.
There are many nice, and cheaper, places to live than Central!
For example, I live in Tung Chung, which is near the Airport. For HK $7,600 per-month I rent a brand new 2 bedroomed flat, fully furnished with a great sea view! It takes around 30 mins to central on the MTR (Train).
The cost of the train to Central is HK $22.00 one way.....(I think thats about 1.5 Quid).......not bad eh?
You may want to get yourself here, book into a cheap hotel then buy yourself the South China Morning post where you can find all those 'share flat' adverts etc.
My advice would be don't limited yourself to Central, or even just Hong Kong Island.
Anyway, Hong Kong is a good choice, good salaries, low taxes and just great for travel around the region.
If I can offer any specific advice or help in anyway, please feel free to ask.
Cheers

Wow, you're arriving in Honkers just in time for the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tournament....you *have* to go, it's brilliant fun! All the expats and many locals go to the 'Sevens' it's a major event, worth going to even if you have no interest in rugby whatsoever.
Here's a Hong Kong expat website which has messages posted for flat-shares, apartments etc:

And for info on the 'Sevens':

You will have a wonderful time in Hong Kong....wish I could come too!...
