Those who know of my affliction (illectronism) will rejoice with me when I announce that I managed to do my Déclaration de Revenus on-line today.
After the fiasco last year, when I didn't manage to declare my home help, gardener, etc... and found myself with an increased amount to pay due to the absence of Crédit-d'Impôts, I made an appointment with the Tax Office for assistance. But my recent success at renewing my British Passport on-line boosted my confidence and I was able to cancel my RV with a big Oufff....
Can't wait for a repeat performance next year.....

Yet another house buying question

Hi. New member here. I've read the FAQ and back a couple of years so hopefully this isn't a FAQ.

We're looking to buy a house in France, and are currently out here looking but I'm out of my depth.

Most of what we're being shown are 1980s builds, but they're single skin walls, often that hollow blockwork that's popular in France, and uninsulated roofs, in one case the wall is just 6mm plywood. I'd expect a UK house of a similar period to be at least cavity walls.

The agents seem reluctant to share the equivalent of an energy performance certificate, all we get is the cost per m2 and the co2 impact. In the UK the certificate and recommendations would be public.

In one place there's a tree growing right on top of the septic tank, in another the seller mentioned that he knows the septic tank is non-compliant and had been quoted to replace but the agent didn't say anything.

When we asked about getting a survey done the agent says that's not how it's done in France, but we're welcome to commission a survey *after* we've committed to buy and got the notaire involved.

This all feels fishy.

Is our budget just too low and that's reflected in the houses or is this normal?

Whist I'm here, if anyone knows of a quiet, not overlooked house in Aude/Ariege under €400,000 please let me know!

Thanks for any advice.
