Hi Folks!

Has anyone recently renewed their US passport whilst living in the UK? Would I be dealing with the FBU in London again?

Also, how was the overall process?

TIA,

Changing US annuity

I'm looking to change the US company that holds my annuity, to another US company.
As there should be no tax liable in the US, I want to ensure that the company I move it to does not withhold tax when making payments.
I have seen so many complaints of US financial companies doing this withholding, even when they have the form, W8 BEN, to avoid such withholding.
Therefore, I can see it may be a problem finding a company that does NOT do the withholding.
Has anyone used a company in similar circumstances, with them making payments without doing the withholding?

Owned container for move to UK

We are in the early stages of planning our return move to the UK.
Our house has been listed for sale and we have started packing, but given a couple of factors, we are not expecting a quick sale, so we haven’t started panicking yet.

Our initial plan had been to self load our belongings and furniture into a 20’ container which we own, and have it freight forwarded to our address in the UK. To date, every enquiry we have made to freight forwarders and cargo companies has resulted in disappointment. Most simply say they don’t do that, a couple recommended removal companies ( both of whom specifically say they won’t ship owner owned containers) and one said they didn’t know of any company that shipped personal effects on owner owned containers.

Has anyone done this ?

We are rethinking our options, as it seems we may have to hire an international moving company. Which is giving me nightmares, I need to stop reading Trustpilot reviews 😱

Looking for UK-Aus Tax Advisor

Hi. I'm looking for a tax advisor that specialises in both UK and Australian personal tax matters.

I moved to Brisbane in 2005 and I transferred my UK pension to an Australian Super under the QROPS rules in 2007. I paid further contributions into that Super from my Australian employment until 2013. I then migrated back to the UK in 2013 and intend to remain UK resident when I start to drawdown my Aus Super at age 60. I've looked through previous threads but can't find any similar situation of someone having a "mixed" Australian Super containing both UK and Aus related contributions.

Can anyone recommend a good tax advisor that can help me through this maze!

Crossborder UK/NL tax WIA IVA

Has anyone encountered UK tax treatment of Dutch UWV WIA-IVA benefits?

I am trying to understand the likely UK classification of a Dutch WIA-IVA benefit for a future relocation back to the UK.

The IVA is a Dutch state-administered long-term incapacity benefit under the WIA employee-insurance framework. It is awarded following a formal determination of full and durable incapacity for work and is payable until Dutch retirement age.

I am trying to understand whether HMRC generally treats this more like:

* taxable foreign social-security income,
or
* a foreign disability/incapacity benefit potentially comparable to exempt UK incapacity/disability benefits under EIM76009.

I appreciate nobody can provide formal advice, but I would be interested if anyone has practical experience with Dutch WIA/IVA treatment or has encountered HMRC’s approach in practice.
