Stansted to Gatwick - quick & cheap
How much might a taxi cost from Liverpool Station to Victoria? My wife is partially disabled and cannot use the tube. We tried the bus once (Gatwick to Stansted) and it took almost 4 hours, not counting our waiting time.

Re: Stansted to Gatwick - quick & cheap
If you mean LIVERPOOL STREET STATION (& not Liverpool, which I am sure you
do) then it's under 5 miles by road to VICTORIA STATION in Westminster. TAXI FARES are listed on this page http://www.lo- ndontransport.co.uk/pco/fares_newtarrifs.shtml and so for 5 miles it would work out at about £12 including extra passenger and luggage. But could be slightly ,ore or less. And depends on whether there is a Tube Strike or Countryside Alliance march etc etc....... In any event, I would say GBP 20-30. Taxi fares have gone up over the last year or so. A lot of cabbies will cross the Square Mile, go past St. Pauls, down Ludgate Hill, the full length of Fleet Street, the full length of the Strand, Trafalgar Square, down the Mall and then across to Victoria. Until you get to the Mall, this can all be at a snail's pace during business hours. You could try the bus to Victoria Coach station, then get a taxi (£5) to Victoria train station. As you know, however, buses are slow. At Victoria, if you are flying BA and arrive over two hours before your flight, get the taxi to the back of the station where you can check in. You will then find a lift down to the trains. Otherwise, you may be better off going to the front of the station as this is on the same level as the trains. Another option is this: Stansted and Luton are not so far away. You could consider booking a cab to take you to Luton Airport Parkway station. Then get the Thameslink train which takes 1 hr 20 minutes to get to Gatwick, leaving four times an hour during sociable hours. Look at www.thameslink.co.uk. They have a message about reduced disabled assistance at Luton Airport Parkway, but at least they have heard of the concept and they have a number to call if you need assistance. Of course, this loses the benefit of the Gatwick Express stopping for 10 minutes at Gatwick, but perhaps you could be in the front carriage and have the driver informed that you are getting out at Gatwick. If you do take the Thameslink, be careful about weekend delays due to engineering works. With kind regards Zany B. Side ____________________ www.londonside.com |

The distance would be under a mile. For most of the day, their are trains every 15 minutes taking about 35 minutes. This would be much cheaper and quicker. Tony |
