Default Schools - Austria and France

My wife and I are narrowing down our options for moving out of the UK. With 3 children aged 7, 6 and 4 schooling is a key consideration. As long as I'm close to an airport I can pretty much live anywhere and due to all the family's love of skiing we are considering Northern Provence and the areas around Kitzbuhel and Schladming in Austria. Our children are all educated privately in the UK (only due to the poor Uk alternatives) and I would be keen to get any opinions on the standards of schooling (both state and private) in France and Austria. Is there anyone with experience of this ?

I used to live in Salzburg then Linz, Austria. The schools in Austria are excellent as are the Universities. Teenaged children who would like to go to uni will need to go to a Bundesgymnasium (academic high school) but all the lessons are in German, and in most schools teachers and pupils speak in the local dialect. The tyrolean dialect is very thick and fairly hard to understand. If you speak no German you can enroll at any Austrian university for a "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" German as a foreign language and learn it to a high level in around a year.

Best of luck, and enjoy the skiing...it is WONDERFUL!!!!!!

Any questions then email me..
