I also read somewhere that the idea Schäuble floated of Greece taking a break from the euro wasn't at all as generous as it might sound on the surface
All I would say is that the Greeks follow the economic advise from the ECB, European Commission and the IMF and does get any of its debts written down. May be by not paying back its debts will bring all parties to the table to have a discussion on debt relief. It is a very risky strategy and should not be use until the very end.

Well done Mark Clattenburg. We all make mistakes; 'fess up, apologise and move on. Shows strength not weakness.

Thanks a lot Vino - I've bookmarked that and it'll be very useful when I finally get around to it (provided the Keeper of the Royal Purse approves, of course ).

Were those bonds issued under English law?

If I remember correctly French holders of those bonds eventually got payments when Russia wished to re-enter bond markets.

I don't know, but I doubt it.

I hadn't heard that, but a lot ended up as framed artwork to hang on the wall as they were otherwise thought to be worthless.

ETA: You are correct.
