Hello
Is it possible to renew your passport when living away or do you need to go back to England to get it renewed. Not far to travel as only in Europe bulgaria. Just means I would need to get someone to take care of things while I am away. So a bit of a pain

Hi, you can apply for your passport from overseas, there is a form to fill on www.gov.uk/overseaspassport. As far as I know can be done by post or in person at British Embassy in Sofia. Hope this helps.

ALL UK Passports are now processed in the UK, so they have to be done by post.

In the good old days I managed to renew my passport at the British Embassy in Sofia. I still have that passport with the rather unusual entry -

"Issued by the Embassy, Sofia"

Now it is not only fiendishly expensive but VERY bureaucratic to get a renewal.

Just renewed mine by post, the hardest was finding a photographer to take the photos to the correct specifications, managed in the end though..
