Default post-flood transport in Prague

I heard that recent floods badly affected the public transport system in Prague.

Does it really affect tourists (e.g. will I have to use more taxis), or there are other means of public transport that substitute the broken metro?

See http://www.dp-praha.cz/povodens.html-
for latest information.

As at the middle of September, Metro lines A and C were running at the
south and east ends of their routes (east from Namesti Miru on Line A,
south from Prazskeho Povstani, and with a limited service between
Prazskeho Povstani and Muzeum), while line B was running west of
Smichovske Nadrazi, and between Hloubetin and Cerny Most at the east end
of the route. Replacement tram routes X-A and X-B have been introduced
for lines A and B, and bus route X-C for line C.

I was there during the first week of September...a minor
inconvenience. Still lots of trams available (and cheap!)...many of
the locals complained of the traffic congestion. We didn't notice as
we have never visited the city beforehand. One piece of advice:
bargain hard with the cabbies - they're a crooked bunch and will "take
you for a ride" and double charge if you don't be careful. Any given
destination will range from 200 to 1000 koruny...bargain or "pay" the
consequences...ignore the media reports about the floods - they are
definitely open for business.

Buses and streetcars have taken on more routes while the damaged Metro system
is being repaired. Check what goes where when you arrive.

If you have to take a cab, the one with the best reputation for honesty used to
be AAA (dial 1080 or 8577, or 333 22 333.) Street cabs have a bad reputation
for blatant cheating.
