Hi, just got back from Benalmadena and wanting to move there. Thought about it for a few years and been to Spain a few times but this is the place for us. Thing is we don't have a clue where to start. We sell our house and will have to spend on a business approx £30k. We will rent initially though. Thought about a bar or buying an appartment to rent out and use the money from the rent to fund our rent and lifestyle, is this possible? will there be enough to live off from the rent? or is a snack/cafe bar on the fronts a better option?
Can anyone recommend anywhere that deals in these types of properties on the Benalmadena area?
Also info on English schools in the same area for a 7 year old and a 3 year old.
I am scanning the forum for answers but help would be greatly appriciated. ;)

Do you mean £30K after buying a house or £30K in total if the latter forget it that amount will not buy an appartment for renting or anything decent in a bar

English schools cost a lot in fees say £4000/6000 a year for your children

Sorry if I sound hard but would suggest you do a lot more research before you think of doing anything remember approx 50% of those trying it fail and return home with nothing

Without an income it is very hard this is why most people who stay are retired with pensions

Why not put them in the Spanish schools? My folks put my sister and I in school (with no Spanish language lessons) after a couple of weeks of our arrival (we were 7 and 5 at the time). We both turned out OK, except we're a little wacky and like to travel :)
You may find that there are some fees for attending public schools, as well.

Do they speak English in spanish schools though? i wanted them to go to the english school and learn spanish as a second language. Don't wanna upset them as soon as we get there coz they will wanna come back home if they can't understand the other kids.

Good way to learn the language though, and fit in, make new friends, kids adjust rather well to these things.

You won't find an English school in Spain without high fees, I can guarantee that.

heheh...who's the boss in your family? The 7 year old or the 3 year old? :)

Children actually *physically* learn language differently than adults (there is a brain change that takes place during puberty). Your children may not end up able to translate for you, but they will speak fluently. Other bilingual kids I've met are the same: if you ask them 'how do you say such and so in Greek?', they can't answer. But then you hear them speaking Greek to their friends. They don't always recognize it as a different language, they just know that if they speak to Sra Monedero, they speak one way and when speaking to Mummy, speak another way.
If they get "upset" it will only last a few days. I remember the first day there: my sis and I encountered a group of kids and played with sign language and smiles til I ran back to mom for the dictionary. *That* was a popular game! We made friends so fast... it really was a great experience overall.
