Default Living overseas but working in the UK

Hi there,

I currently live in southern Austria but am self employed still earning the bulk of my income from UK businesses. At the moment I still complete a tax return as if I live in the UK......does anyone out there know what I should be doing? I spoke with the tax office and they said complete for P85 and send to them for review. Is it that straightforward? Has anyone got experience of this?

Any help is appreciated
Thanks Dave

In general you should pay tax in your country of residency

Hi Dave
I live in France but worked in UK, although not self employed. Tax had to be paid in UK but declared on my French tax return - as there is a double tax agreement, no further deductions were made in France.
Austria also has a double tax agreement with UK, so it would probably be best for you to contact your local tax office in Austria for advice.
P85 is usually for people leaving UK and not still working there.
The HM revenue &customs website has a useful section here
