JParis - Hotel Guy Lussac or Port Royal - any reccomendations?
I am looking for cheap accomadation in Paris. Twin bedded room for about 70 Euro max. Any suggestions? I will be travelling with my 17 yr old daughter and want to stay somewhere convenient for "all the sights!"

Hotel Gay Lussac is more central within the Latin Quarter, but isn't very close to a Metro station, but two RER stations are several blocks away. The walk from the station to the hotel is uphill at a moderate grade, if I remember correctly. Several good bus lines are very convenient to the Hotel, so I'd probably depend on them quite a bit, at least for the first segment of travel to connect to the Metro/RER or to get to the Seine. I haven't stayed at this hotel. Hotel Port Royal is on the southern border of the 5th arrondissement, in the Les Gobelins neighborhood. The Les Gobelin metro station on line 5 is a half block away. Several good bus routes also are a close walk away. It isn't as centrally located as the Lussac, but the Hotel itself is well maintained with an elevator, attractive lobby/breakfast room, and clean rooms. The Les Gobelin neighborhood is quieter than the blvd. St. Michel/Gay Lussac area. With both hotels, you should be able to get anywhere in Paris in less than 45min using public transit, usually faster. |

news:<[email protected]>... > Thanks. Any other suggestions for cheap accomadation? In mid January we (wife, me, two teenagers) stayed at the Hotel de la Sorbonne, 6 Rue Victor Cousin 75005 Paris right in the heart of the Latin Qtr, 30 meters from the Place de la Sorbonne, just off the Bld San Michel. Cost was E70 a night (=about $US61) for a double, without breakfast. Great location, Luxembourge RER and Cluney RER & Metro station a short walk away. Close to the Seine & Notre Dame, Bld's San Michel & Germain, easy access to Eiffel Tower via RER C, walkable along the left bank of the Seine, but you will probabley catch the RER back. To get from the airport get the RER train(not TGV) from the airport, it is RER line2, get off at Luxembourg, use station exit at the rear end of train, go up right hand side esclators come out on Bld San Michel walk down hill, back the way the train came, cross Rue de Gay Lussac & Rue de Soffutet(?)(the Patheon is at the top of the street), turn right into the second, then first left, cross next side street, go down four/six doors, youre there. Very easy. Phone; 33-134354808, Fax 33-1-40510518 Email [email protected], www.italyhotel.com/fr/paris/delasorbonne Allen |

When we checked in, the young man at the reception desk who spoke good English saw we were from Brooklyn (as I was at the time) and said his cousin lived there, and as he spoke in came the cousin and we learned we lived a couple of blocks from each other in Park Slope. The woman who owned the hotel inspected the rooms each day, with her large dog accompanying her. That was some 15 years ago, so things may have changed:) Certainly the dog would be elderly indeed! I see prices have not gone up. We did have breakfast, served either in the room or in a room adjoining the lobby. |

Thanks for the info. I e-mailed the hotel de la Sorbonne but they replied that a room would be 79 Euro which unfortunately is just outside my budget. I just want to make sure we have a reasonable hotel room(quiet) with comfortable beds. I am taking my daughter (17)with me - this is her big trip from New Zealand and Paris has been her dream. Any other suggestions anyone?

Any other suggestions anyone? Yeah thats how it goes! One advantage of travelling to Europe in Dec/Jan (our summer holidays) is that accommodation is cheaper. Still it is a great location! Allen |

I have booked at the hotel de la Sorbonne, so thanks for your help. Is it a fairly quiet hotel? Would you reccomend asking for any paticular room? joyce |
