Re: The ideal European country...

Ummm, akshually :
a few other things Belgian , incl. ( but not limited to ) :
moules & frites , really good steaks ,
Spa Francorchamps F1 Grand Prix ,
incredibly chic Bruxelles babes ,
car-free Sundays , which turn into festivals of cycling , jogging , walking the dogs and enjoying the free-for-all handouts by Carrefour staff ,
fresh Brit-press Sunday mornings , complete with all the supplements ,
the fact that the natives prefer the Brits to almost any other nation on this our Earth ( except , perhaps , the French - but , that'd be only in the province of Wallonia ! ) ...
the mind boggles !?

Not too much a fan of the food (well in the restaurants in the UK anyway) as it seems to rely too much on stodgy pasta and tomatoes... however I agree about the wine, and I'm sure the scenery is great too.

Surprised (with your username) you didn't add the ice-cream!

The "Itae" grub in U.K. usually is only an insulting abortion , or aberration , for the uninitiated ones - unless one pays well over the the odds , for the correct pleasure/s , IMHO ;
whereas Italy has such a vast culture , history and selection of good food , like almost no other country ( save for France , of course ! ) , so that it is almost impossible to discuss "italian" food , but rather the food of Tuscany , Puglia , Sicily , Sardinia , Lombardy , Genoa , Bologna , Venezia , Trieste...where do you stop ?

Re: The ideal European country...

Yes here in Rome the food is pretty good. Even my 2 year old eats good food at daycare. They really care about food here.

And it's not the same as the stodgy pasta you might get in a UK restaurant. Just like the Chinese food you get in a restaurant here in Italy isn't really Chinese.

Every Estonian I've ever met was one of two things;
1: Hot
2: Male

However, I'm not sure it would be an ideal country to live in though.....

Not sure actually - maybe its the all year round climate that appeals. Living on an island though can't be that much fun after a while. Turkey appeals too but technically that isn't in Europe and if Sarkozy has his way it never will be either

Forget the cold , calculated Skandie women ; try the hot ones from France , Belgium , Italy , even NL ( if desperate ) or alternatively : the immigrant ones , the Maroccans , assorted Slavic ones , the Ethiopians/Erithreans etc ;
- Great French /Italian Food ( and Arabic ) , all the TV you think you need , coffee shops ?
- Engleesh : everyone speaks a bit , or more , in a manner that you might find difficult to reject !
So , all the above : No Problem !
N.B. The THE best F1 race : Spa Francorchamps , in the Ardennes !
No Ibiza beaches , yet : crazy night life !
Welcome to Belgium , mate !

Re: The ideal European country...

In my opinion England and Wales are the only countries that make good beer but I've pretty much managed without it since I moved to Scotland in 1997 so I dare say I can carry on drinking wine instead when I move to mainland Europe.
