Caught this item earlier this evening on the Beeb.

Security researchers have discovered failings in two home electric car chargers.

Last weekend, Rowan Atkinson had a piece in the Guardian, which upon reading I thought to be a bit off in quite a few respects.

Today the Guardian has published a follow-up to that article in this fact check.

Indeed, without a widespread shift to EVs, there is no plausible route to meeting the UK’s legally binding target of net zero greenhouse emissions by 2050 – and the same is true globally.

That would actually be a more realistic lease amount for some of the EV's around..

I'm wondering if there is actually sufficient infrastructure in place capable of supporting this kind of initiative.

Infrastructure is still 'not that good' where I am.

But then mine's a hybrid rather than straight EV, I tend to mostly make short trips, and have a fast-charge at home.

Hybrid-electric car sales grew the most in the EU last month but petrol-fuelled cars are still in high demand. Leading with France and Italy, new car registrations within the EU rose by 10.1% in February compared with the same month last year, and hybrid-electric vehicles saw the biggest jump across the bloc

In Italy the charging is expensive if you dont have solar. Another issue is local garages cannot repair EVs. I have been looking at buying an electric mountain bike. I checked the repair costs of battery failure and motor failure and they were both about €1000 and thats just a for bike that you still have to pedal.
I have an lpg car that is very fuel efficient and I am not moving to electric unless forced.

Hybrids are being pushed because of all the panic around range on EV's, but they come with their own disadvantages too.
Here in NL the road tax is based primarily on weight of your vehicle. So, even if you have a low emissions rate a heavy vehicle means hefty road taxes anyway.
It kind of defeats the point so you can't win (which is common in NL).
I have a low emissions (CAT 6) 1,3L petrol vehicle yet the road tax here is £780 per year. A comparable Hybrid is over €1200,- now and the supposed fuel economy doesn't add up at all.
I even have a neighbor who had an EV for 3 years and has gone back to Diesel!
