I would not stay in Venice. Stay in Mestre instead. Its cheaper, better, easier,
Parking, etc. What are you going to do when your luggage falls out of the boat?

Venetian hotels are fine and far more convenient than Mestre. That's like telling
someone vsiting New York to stay in Oakland. ??

Ugh. *Terrible* advice.

    > Its cheaper,

Yes. The *only* thing going for it.

    > better,

Emphatically not.

Emphatically not.

Despite what many people think, there's parking in Venice itself.

That's an absurd comment. If that's the way you feel, don't go to Venice at all. What
are you going to do when you fall out of the boat?

We stayed in Mestre - Marghera on two visits, and if we'll visit Venice again, we'll
stay in the city itself. If you have a car you can park it near the train station in
Mestre, free.Because in Venice you won't need it. Sometimes it's worth while to have
the car stand a couple of days instead of renting in for two short periods. But it's
better not to have one, and save the trouble.

BETTER??????

Cheaper I'll grant, but better? How?

You miss the undefinable quality that is Venice. Its hard to explaine but it is very
very real. Stay in Mestre and you miss it. Also its a hassel to get back & forth. If
you have a rental car, consider giving it back when you arrive and getting another
when you leave (this may not work depending on the length of your stay and hire rate
price breakpoints, but it worke for me.
