You think that the UK is "harsh" on those unable to work? You obviously have no idea what it is like outside the UK!

So please can you explain why your "friend" is so obsessed about leaving the UK to live anywhere in the EU?

Some people think the Earth is flat, you think that my friend is imaginary. Fine, you can believe in anything you like.

Well said and I don't know how much more people can expect. As for Ireland being even harsher, the government have been handing out €350 a week per person during Covid.
At the end of the day nothing is free but nobody has to starve in this part or the world.

Does that apply to countries like Sweden, Denmark, NL, France, Germany? I doubt that.

Well, quite evidently the British healthcare as well as social care systems are clearly not up to scratch.

Another reason (while he is still able to work) is that most of his clients are on the continent. And he will be unable to provide his on-site services to them once the transition period is over.

Covid is a different story but if you have statistics or evidences that Irish health care and safety nets are much better than British ones, please describe them here.

You might not be comparing like for like - the cost of living, especially in Scanadanivia is very high, so a large benefit payment might not go as far as you, or your "friend", think.

Sorry, it's not "quite evident", other than by rumour, speculation, and prejudice. Please would you care to provide actual evidence of what you're talking about. And if you're talking about care homes in the coronavirus pandemic, there have been horrendous problems in many countries, not just the UK, and in that context you might want to reconsider including Sweden in your list above.

What sort of peculiar business activity will he be "unable to provide" after the transition period ends? Almost all cross border business activities will be able to continue, though there may be some additional red tape or less advantageous terms. Across the industrialized world travel for business purposes is allowed and accepted - or is he working as an on-site contractor, as opposed to just visiting a client?

Rather than ask people to counter your phantom concerns, please describe what you, or your friend, thinks is wrong with the health care and social support system in the UK, then people can provide advice against that yardstick.

To be honest I don't want to compare two different systems and what's better is up to each individual (depending on location). What I know is that I certainly don't have to worry here and as an EU Citizen I can access healthcare in any other EU Country under the cross-border directive. Fact is that both countries have a lot of lazy people who get far too much. Harsh is something very different.

Maybe or maybe not. And this is exactly the question my friend hopes to get answer for.

Already did, happy to repeat:

No, it's not about covid times, the problem is much deeper.

Sure, tell someone blind or quadriplegic that they are all lazy and a few quid they get every week is far too much, will you?

So, would you say a lot of blind or quadriplegic people are just lazy?

No, they would fall into the group between "a lot" (of people who are lazy) and "everyone" (who is unable to work).

So, which type of disability you or Moses count as 'lazy' then?

Nobody has said that. You've twisted Moses' comment in to something he never said.

Moving on please……..
