Question Greece * Driving * Rents a cellular phone

I'm going to Greece for 6 weeks from 17 April.
And I'd like to rent a motorbike(moped) in Greece.
Then, I'd like you for me to teach about a driver's license card.

I have the license which can ride only on a motorbike "under 50cc".
This is the license published in Japan.
In Japan, an "international driver's license" which can ride only on the
motorbike "under 50cc" is not published.
I have not the international driver's license.

Can't I rent and ride on the motorbike in Greece?

If I am required, I will translate it into English and will show
together with a "Japanese driver's license card".

Would you publish it to me when an international license is required?

* The conditions of others which I need for driving are ready. *

---------------------------------------------------------------

Are there any shops which rents a cellular phone in the airport and town in Athens?
How much is the charge?

We went on holiday to Greece last summer and with a normal English driving licence hired a moped. We met many people who hired mopeds while we were there as it is the easiest (and cheapest) way to get about.

I am not sure about Japanese driving licences but maybe a travel agent can tell you.

If you do hire a moped it is good to look about for somewhere to hire as there is a lot of competition and you can find cheaper places if you look rather than hiring from the first place you see.

Be careful of Greek drivers - they don't indicate and when they hold their hand up open at you it means that they are cursing you and the next 5 generations of your family! I lived in Greece for a year and it happened to me many a time

I have lived in Greece for 20 years and have had my driving licence asked for about 2 times. The people who rent out the mopeds are not that interested in your licence - they are more interested in a sale.

The police will not want the hassle of stopping you and having to speak to you in English and if you look Japanese will expect that they will not be able to communicate and so will not stop you unless you are doing something really bad. I wouldn't worry about it. Things are a lot more lax here than in other countries

You could buy an a la carte connection (ie number and sim) for about 15 euro. You could then pop the sim into your own phone probably. I don't think you can rent phones anywhere here in Greece in the same way that you would rent a car. People rent phones in the more normal way - ie pay standing charges etc.
