Arriving at CDG 7 am on last Saturday in Nov. and connecting flight departing at 5PM. Advice on best way to get into town. Haven't been back for a long time and will want to see some old haunts in and around the 17th arron. but would like to grab some flavor elsewhere, perhaps Xmas shoping. Any thoughts?

The RER runs right into CDG so it is easy to get a round trip ticket into the city --

The best way to get into town is the Air France shuttle bus. It runs every 30
minutes, is cheap and reliable. It will drop you off on Rue Carnot (one of the hubs
off the Arche - Charles de Gaulle Etroille). The drop off and pick up are only 100
meters from the metropolitan line. The cost is 8 dollars and is open to any
traveller. Hope this helps.

You might check out the Marais- it has changed over the years. Also, I like to pick
up gifts at Fauchon, which is the huge gourmet food shopping place (I think it has 3
individual stores). The selection of items at Fauchon is amazing.

The Marais sure has changed over the years and is now lined with very high priced
boutiques -- a very touristy and pricey place to shop in Paris
