So does anyone know what if anything is going to change?
Will we still be getting searched coming back into Slovenia?

Nothing to gain from this for ordinary Croatian citizens in my opinion.

To answer your question Croatia will not be part of the Schengen Agreement, so it might be a couple of years before we can travel back and forth without border controls

Some countries who ARE "Schengen" have decided that they have bigger fish to fry , rather than blind generosity & utter Good Faith ;
therefore e.g. Denmark , France , Spain have now re-introduced some border controls , random or regular .
There are just too many abusers of EU-dream , from Maghreb to Roumania to Latvia to Hungary , Lithuania and others , see ?
Luckily , SLOvenia ( and Croatia ) have too little to offer in terms of free-loaders' social benefits , work prospects , what all to be stolen , narcotics and prostitutes' trade etc - so , DO thank your lucky stars & I hope to see ya all there , say : early September ?

In the meantime , am in La Belle France today , wonderful warm days around La Mer du Nord , sandy shores ( "beaches"? Nein Danke ! ) , my Schnauzer just luuurves it , all screamin' seagulls , driftwood ....oh , and a saucerfull of Moules Marinieres w. one's ice-cold 1664 .
Belgique tomorrow , am thinking of SLO , after the madness of summer "hols" , maybe ?
