My wife and I arrive in Bulgaria at the end of August and plan to stay until April. While we are there we wiil be buying a new home. We need a long let for the winter with Western European comforts, good heating, satellite TV and ideally near the Greek border.

There are few expats in Yambol/Elhovo area

Outside Bourgas is way outside my commute distance for the Greek border. I think you underestimate the number and spread of ex-pats in Bulgaria - even after a couple of weeks I have been in touch with several near Ivailovgrad so I'll trust my judgement on this one.

I said I didn't know of anyone in Ivaylovgrad not that there are no expats there, anyway glad you found some expats living there who can help you. There is a big expat community in the Elhovo/Yambol region, there a few around Smolyan, some expats near Sandanski which is very close to the Greek border and has milder winters and there were some expats in the Svilengrad area
