Working after ARTC

Hi.

Moving to Brisbane soon. After completing ARTC, what are the chances of getting work whilst attending wiring regs course etc.

Is it a better idea to head to SA for peer course? I've searched through some post and some say 2-4 weeks in SA, others say 1 day course then back another day for exam then licence sent out 3 weeks later.

Really confused. Again!?

Steve.

The Peer course can be done by correspondence, so you can just come for the exam. You also need to get a photo taken once you have applied to the licencing board (you have to wait for a letter from the licencing place though, so that takes a few days).

It takes about 3 weeks to get the course work done, (which is mostly answering questions by finding the regulations in the book) so unless you write very fast I doubt you'd get it done in one day ;) :D

Just ring them. Their number is: 08 8348 1200

You just need to ask to be placed on the wiring rules course, and say you are staying in Brisbane so can you have the course sent to you there. :)

Thanks Wendy.

Has anyone in QLD went through the qet route. What I need to know is how easy it is to find work while working through log book etc?

Steve.

Steve.

that`ll be me then ive done both the electricians course and more lately the contractors course with qet ;)
http://www.qet.edu.au/

i applied for two jobs and got both the first was a bit too far to travel so i opted to work for a small firm in currumbin

work through the workbboks from qet, get your supervisor to sign off any electrical work doen in your log book ( qet are looking for a range of different work so show as many as poss dist boards tails / mains, lights, skts etc etc )

the exam is a one day jobby with theroy and a practical
the theory is 4 questions to show you know how to do VD cable sizing circuit loading, 40 on the regs ( you answer which rega aplies to the question ) and 30 on testing again all answers from the wiring regs ( the last one being mostly muliple choice )

the practical he`s looking manly for a safe working practice double check everthing and be over caustious is probably the best advice

need to know more just ask

regards steve
