I'm a electrical contractor in england and i'm looking to move to oz to work for a while. I've been looking into it and it seems like i have to complete 7 extra sections which aren't in the uk course. Is this true or is there away round it?. I would like to do this in england, before i go. Is there any course/web sites that i can use?

Hi Jack,
If you want to migrate to Australia then you'll need to have your skills assessed by VETASSESS which involves a theoretical and practical assessment.
If you have a successful outcome and you are then granted a visa, then you have to undertake some gap training in Australia to get a full licence and this varies from state to state. Which State do you have in mind?
Also, which UK course are you referring to? You can't get a full licence until you are actually in Australia.
The only course you could possibly do in the UK is the PEER wiring regs course by correspondence. Then you would need to go to Adelaide to sit the 4/5 day revision/exam.This would get you a South Australian licence. Also, if you have an OTSR issued by VETASSESS you would need to complete 12 months on the job gap training. In order to bypass this requirement, you would need to apply for an Australian Recognised Trades Certificate(ARTC).

Thanks mate thats alot easyer to understand.

I have done a JIB apprenticeship and sitting the 2391 thurday. can u still work in oz without these qualifications? Thinking of nsw or wa, but not sure, where ever the money is lol. Do you live in oz?
