how to get back into my trade
Hi all,
I am currently living in WA and work fifo as an auto sparky having lived and worked here for 3 years.
I came here on a 457 from Wales as an auto sparky even though I am a High voltage electrician (I just needed elctrical trades papers to get here).I have city & guilds Part 1,11,111 in elctrical and electronic craft studies and have worked in heavy industry all my life, working on all the normal stuff....plc's,very large motors, transformers, control systems,0-10V , 4-20mA, hydraulics, pneumatics etc....all the normal heavy industry stuff.
I need some help in getting my papers recognised over here so I can get out of the auto stuff and get back to what I am trained for and like doing (HV).
The New Zealand way looks like the go but I am not sure.
Any help I can get would be great.
ps....just discovered this site and it's great !

The NZ route may well be the quickest option at the moment. Alternatives would be to try for RPL with a local TAFE / RTO doing cert III electrotechnology, or to apply for OTSR through Vetassess / Vic Uni / Future Skills and then do gap training / e-profiling / etc once you have a supervised workers license.
As you came over on a 457, what visa are you currently on? If planning a future application for PR, the OTSR may be the way to go.

NZ don't currently seem to be asking for supervised work / log book / etc so if nothing changes should be quickest. If you have a check, I think there are posts from a couple of people who have done it that way.
