victorian license LEA assessment info

contacted esv this morning and asked what i need for an a grade license in victoria.i have been classed as an electrical mechanic by tra.
esv told me i have to pass the lea assessment.this consists of 3 parts, safe working practises- SWP. an LET assessment which is theory and an LEP which is practical.
once these are passed they will supply a full A grade license.
has anyone done these assessments and if so do you recommend doing the 3 preparation courses beforehand.?
esv website info is consistent with what i was told on phone.this makes a pleasant change.
i also asked if its possible to transfer a south australian license to victorian and her answer was i would have to do the above courses.
this makes the peer route a non starter now.
