Hi Guys,
Sorry we've not been round much lately just wanted to confirm the way Dave got his Victorian A Grade Licence..............
.....
Which he's just received in the post finally!
We went down the Vetassess route originally, got that bit of paper.
Then applied for the ARTC, got that bit done,
Then did Wiring regs at Peers,
Then got SA A Class licence off back of the Wiring Regs and ARTC
Then transferred it to a Vcotorian A Grade licence, no log book required.
TFFT
Job done.
When we arrived in Oz in May no one would take Dave on with a provisional licence they just weren't interested, no one would give us a definate answer that thw route above would work. I believe we were probably some of the first to do all this crap Vetassess then double back and get the ARTC.
Don't lose hope guys, this process does work.

they appear to be thinking of tightening up the interstate recognition - that is, preventing an artc for an electrical fitter gaining a mechanics licence by taking the peer course. SA don't have the fitter and mechanic definitions just an A class licence... So if you get a fitters artc go to peer get your A class licence and transfer this interstate and get a full licence there that you couldn't have otherwise got! I can see why they want to stop this but i can also see the appeal of living and working in SA where a sparx is a sparx is a sparx

there are 2 systems in place if you go via TRA & get the ARTC you can go to PEER do the Exam for wiring rules then on the day you pass PEER you go to Licensing in S/A & transfer the license to the state your living in.
(2) system is you apply from the Uk & go via Vet, then when here you can still go to PEER do the wiring rules & then you apply to Licensing for a restricted license then do the Log Book for 12 months maximum also go Gap training at a TAFE that runs this course or you can do 160 hours project work from home, but best is do the 5 days intense GAP course.
the latter seems a ball ache to be honest for people some have gone down Vet, then from the Uk have got there ARTC from UK, then when here direct to PEER for the wiring rules test then full license, i suppose it all depends on the info you supply to TRA for the mechanics license, once you have that your on a winner.

did you have any problems converting the sa licence to a victorian one? what visa did you get? my partner did vetasses for visa and we are on a 176 sponsored visa for victoria, so are we still able to do the ARTC, PEERS, sa licence route and then covert to victorian licence?
some are saying because we have started with vetasses, then we cant change to ARTC?
any info would be great
Thank you

There has been a lot of discussion about this on the pomsinoz website electricians thread where a guy called Chris Mac was turned down for an ARTC because he had gone down the vetassess route.
It is my belief, and it is only my opinion and I could be wrong, that had Chris not declared his OTSR in his application to the TRA for an ARTC then his application would have proceeded without complication.
IF you do make an application to the TRA , DO NOT declare the OTSR or any dealings with Vetassess. It appears they refunded his application fee so it's probably worth a shot.
However, do you realise that your partner can go to WA and do an ENERGY SAFETY course for two weeks and get a WA licence with the OTSR and not bother with the ARTC. For more info check the 'WA Electrical Mechanic in 4 monthts' thread on this site listed a few lines down form this thread.
Hope this helps. Regards Derren

the migration people are in the same office they all deal with ARTC & Vet its all on the database, once you go down the Vet route you cannot jump ship to ARTC, they tell each other also it comes up on the database. so your then stuffed sorry to say.
But even doing VET in west Aussie you can now do a 2 week course then apply for the unrestricted license, in other states people with Vet can actually go to PEER in S/A & do there course.
the main differences between Vet & ARTC is with Vet you must have a log book signed every week for 12 months, unless you know somebody who can sign of after 6 weeks.????? remember 6 weeks easy done.??
there is also GAP training to be done if you have done the Vet route the GAP is to bring you up to Australian standards (that's a joke) but this may be done at a Tafe (College) in the state your living in, it can be done in the evenings or a 5 day course the Tafe's that provide this course is very limiting but it may be achieved.

Is this something they have recently clamped down on seeing as Becky's other half, at the top of this thread , managed to do successfully.

when you apply from the Uk you can apply for TRA the easiest route or most people just assume all shall be well & they are steered down the Vet route sorry to say, so if you apply for TRA then you can apply for OTSR from the UK.
all you need when here is to to the unrestricted license this can be done over 2 days at PEER in S/A, you sign up for there distance electrical learning course cost $900.00 inc of 2 day exam at PEER.
they supply all books you need, there is a workbook with loads of examples once you do it all your ready for the exam, if you get stuck on any questions you simply email PEER they are fantastic people to deal with.
you can do the license in other states but most states have different exam types & it can take loads of time & money.
The exam at PEER as i said is over 2 days 1st day revision DO IT 2nd day a 7 hour exam, thats why its important to do the 1dt day revision they go over everything.

I don't need need to to follow the Vetassess route as were applying on my wife's application as a nurse so, when we have our PR visa , I can then apply for the ARTC. My question is for the other applicants out there who have gone down the Vets route. It seems that the only shortcut available to them is to follow the Energy Safety course in WA. Do you think it is pointless for them to try for the ARTC / PEER route.

if applicants have applied via VET then they cannot jump ship at all across to ARTC its as simple as that sorry to say.
but at the end of the day they can still do a course for the unrestricted electrical license i know in WA energy safe are now running a course for people with VET or ARTC the course i believe is a 2 week course all day job, so people can & have done this course & obtained the full license.
