Hi Paul
When you have your qualifications you will need to have 4 years fully qualified experience before you can apply for the skilled route so you would have to wait until 2014 unfortunately.
If you have any close relatives i.e uncle, aunt you can go via family sponsor route and apply straight away.
Work is tight all over the world now not just UK and OZ, things will be booming again in a couple of years so dont be disheartened, just work hard at college now and get some good experience on site and worry about moving to OZ when you have 3 or 4 years qualified experience

Hi Buddy, You don't need 4 yrs qualified to apply. Check the vetassess web-site.Davy.

I stand corrected things have changed since I done mine. Vetassess is the way forward. I done it through TRA.
Think you can apply on completion of apprenticeship now.
If you want to get your ARTC and go the peer route that will prob be the quickest way to get your OZ licence.

I didn't do an apprenticeship - qualified in july2006 - but reading the link to get ARTC I need "an appropriate overseas apprenticeship and work experience OR seven years in an electrical trade."
I have passed vetassess for my visa, can I get my ARTC with this or not.??
cheers Paul

Re: totally confused, is it all worth it?
I was looking to settle in WA, probably.
Trying to keep my options open with all the current problems.
Is it the seven years experience or apprenticeship you think i'll not get the ARTC . Have C&G 2330,2381,2391..was hoping they would be enough.
Cheers Paul

you could argue that the courses you`ve completed where "formal" training whilst the practical was done on site, but you`ll need good employer references backing it up, and a well written breakdown of your training written to cover the points shown below, and to be honest a fair deal of good luck
points to cover
What are tradespeople in Australia expected to be capable of?
You must demonstrate that you are capable of doing the broad range of work normally done by, and to the same level of skill as, a tradesperson trained in Australia.
The work of a tradesperson includes:
reading work instructions and technical drawings common to the trade;
planning independently the method and order of doing a job;
using measuring instruments correctly;
marking out, laying out and setting up trade work;
selecting appropriate materials, tools, machines and equipment;
making appropriate settings on tools, machines and equipment;
performing trade work independently; and
checking and /or testing work against established standards.
You must also demonstrate that you have adequate background/theoretical knowledge.
