is there much work out there?
 

as per the title
i regulary get asked by sparkies thinking of coming over or part way through visa applications how much work is there ? and to be honest if i didnt ask mates who are on the construction side i wouldnt know, as for the most part i do installation, breakdown and repairs of commercial catering equipment the breakdown and repair sides keeping us in beer tokens but installs are pretty flat,

so is work picking up??

Work in WA is definitely picking up. There are always jobs in the paper and the same jobs seem to be in the paper for weeks at a time which may indicate they are having trouble finding people to fill the positions. I know of one company that is looking to double its workforce by Xmas and I've heard of a few fellas going up to the mines in recent weeks. To be honest I can't remember the last electrician I met that was actually looking for a job. Not sure how the work situation is in other states though. Perhaps someone else may be able to shed some light.

Hello All,

It's been a slow winter for me, i mainly do Air Con installs, with switchboard upgrades, the air con side as been very slow and there has been days with no work. It's started to pick up now, with re-furbs to lighting and power keeping me afloat. I have a good range of maintenance contracts that keeps my head above water. I keep my eye on the job front and there appears to by plenty of jobs in the offering.
The southern suburbs of brisbane is my area of interest and on average just recently 20 jobs in a given 3 day period.

the jobs numbers are definitely on the up compared to when i got here a (14 weeks) but had a lot of knock backs:frown: their are times when you wonder if you'll get anything! as is the case these day being 'just' an electrician isn't enough you need to have been on more courses than Tiger Woods:) get this election out of the way and maybe things will pick up.
