Default Setting up business

Not going to do it just yet. But thinking in the next year or so. So for those who may have done it or even thinking about it. What are the steps?

1) Business(can be your own name?)
2) ABN
3)?
4)?
5)?

Please feel free and fill in the blanks. I'm really looking for NSW but could probably be adapted for any other state. Thanks in advance.

Business name - here's a list of steps to register your business name in NSW:

http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/Bu...ess_names.html

Also a good source of info is the Government business site: http://www.business.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx

That's about as much as I know

I have recently just acquired an ABN so that i could buy a new van. But after reading through several rules etc about business names. Since i am using my own name then i don't need to register my business. For example. Jockstar. But if i wanted to call it Jockstars Electrical then I MUST register. Well thats what i read it as. Views?

1) Business(can be your own name?)

Yes

2) ABN

Register for ABN on line for free here: http://www.business.gov.au/BusinessT...mber(ABN).aspx

3)?

I presume you have TFN

4)?

If sole trader using your own name, you don't need to register it as a business name. If you use a company title then you should look at registering it here: http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/Bu...ess_names.html

That is for NSW.

5)?

Check with your local council to see if you need to register with them.

6)?

If you register for GST then you will need to do quarterly Business Activity Statements.

Please feel free and fill in the blanks. I'm really looking for NSW but could probably be adapted for any other state. Thanks in advance.
