RPL centers for electrical mechanic?
 

Hey all,

Completed an Electrical/Instrumentation apprenticeship in Ireland, but got rejected for TRA as electrical mechanic as told combined apprenticeship doesn't cover requirements completely.

Have to look into RPL - Recognition Prior Learning over here, to get fasttracked into fourth year apprenticeship or something.

Have heard about PEER in Adelaide and 370 Degrees in Carlton, Melbourne.
Is there a reason to go to one over the other, or are they all the same process?

Is there any place anyone would recommend?

Any experience or advice would be great!

Rejected on grounds of insufficient experience.

On feedback, told that despite most work experience being in installation, the curriculum for Electrical/Instrumentation doesn't cover everything that stand-alone Electrical does. Irish training authority agrees despite the fact that it qualifies you to work as electrician in Ireland.

Said would have been ok if had done 7 years, but only did 5, including apprenticeship, of which, some of that was training in instrumentation.

So don't know what to do apart from get in touch with RTO's/TAFE's here and see what they can say.

Got granted "Electrical Fitter (Instruments)" but that doesn't give any routes to getting sparking license.

Any other possibilities or recommendations?

Yes, take an electrical fitter license, after 12 months of work you'll get electrical mechanic license

yes i've heard this as well.

good money being paid for instrumentation around sydney, from what i've seen on SEEK

That's what i was hoping for when was granted Electrical Fitter (instruments).
However, have contacted licensing bodies in SA and VIC, both of whom said that Electrical Fitter (instruments) is less of a recognition than Electrical Fitter, which is what they need to get on the road for full license.

Gonna get in touch with http://www.skillshortagesolutions.com, hopefully they might have more idea as there is only bout 60 people per year qualfy with the dual-trade i've done in Ireland.
