Default requirement for using ferrules

Hi all,

It's been a while! Just a question for those sparks currently in Oz, I work in the building controls industry and have yet to see a bootlace ferrule being used in a control panel, I keep getting told it's not necessary and a waste of time - everybody has their opinion and that's cool . Just something bugging me about this as I'm sure I saw the requirement for the use of ferrules with (at least braided) cable terminations in the wiring rules, the index isn't great and can't find any mention of this now I'm looking back for it...

Do any of you have any knowledge of any requirement or recommendation or am I just having one of those between regulations (BS/ASNZS) episodes?

AS/NZS 3000
3.7.2.5 Retention of stranded conductors
The ends of stranded conductors shall be secured by suitable means, so as
to prevent the spreading or escape of individual strands. They shall not be
soft-soldered before clamping under a screw or between metal surfaces.

I asked the same question and was told its ok as long as the terminal hasn't got a screw that secures the copper (like blue points)
din rail connectors and MCBs are OK as they have a clamp type connections (if you know what i mean)
