OTSR gap training etc

so long story - OH applied for ARTC which wasn't granted so we are now doing the vetassess route to get onto gap training etc.

Can anyone particularly in WA explain what happens once you (:fingerscrossed:) get your OTSR?

I have heard you have to enrol in a course - does this happen before you get your logbook etc? What happens next?

Luckily my husband has an understanding employer so he can work as a TA to do the logbook.

Any idea best case scenario how long you can complete the training in?

Anyone doing this route - please advise how it is going etc!

If he didn't get an ARTC he is very unlikely to pass the paperwork stage of Vetassess as is its the same as ARTC, probably requires more evidence tbh. Why did he not get an ARTC?

Basically it works like this.

Apply vettasess with paper application if you pass you then sit trade test. Could take up to 6 months and costs around $2500
Apply to energy safety with your OSTR for an electrical permit to work. Takes a month
Once you recieve the Permit you can book the course at tafe it costs $2000

You attend TAFE for 2 weeks and you can register for the logbook online.
You are then sent homework to be sent back to the TAFE.(its quite a lot of work to do at home)
Once you have filled your logbook its time based so it depends on how many hours you work per week and also what type of work you are doing.
Can take up to a year, i should do mines in about 7-8 months and i work overtime a lot.
Then you do the same trade test as an Australian apprentice.

So all in you are looking at a year and a half. But Vetassess is for migration and why anyone would do that instead of ARTC is beyond me!

Passed the paper assessment of vetassess now awaiting practical next week.
