Default multifunction testers

Hi,

I've got a nice multi function tester and was wondering if its worth bringing this over or selling it and buy one set up for Australian standards?

I'm working through the PEER course work and other than Australian being a giant earth farm with the electrodes everywhere it all seems very much the same - disconnection times, rcd tripping etc etc.

Have any of you brought one over with you and used it ok?

Any advice replys appreaciated as ever

Given all the red tape and hurdles to be jumped through i find it amazing that you all say the standard of work is crap once you get into it. I'm mentally prepared for the worst but if it's half as bad as you all say it will still be a big shock!

3.6 OPERATION OF RESIDUAL CURRENT DEVICES (RCDs)
3.6.1 Objective
Testing of RCDs is performed to ensure that the RCD operates.
The function of the RCD is verified by the operation of the integral test device, or by the
use of special test equipment.
3.6.2 Requirements
Operation of the integral test device shall cause the RCD to trip.
NOTES:
1 Tripping the RCD by means of the integral test device establishes—
(a) that the RCD is functioning correctly; and
(b) the integrity of the electrical and mechanical elements of the tripping device.
2 Operation of the integral test device does not provide a means of checking—
(a) the continuity of the main earthing conductor or the associated circuit protective
earthing conductors; or
(b) any earth electrode or other means of earthing; or
(c) any other part of the associated electrical installation earthing.

thats straight from the regs
so the accepted and approved by the regulations way of testing and rcd is to press the test button, basic or what?

Funnily enough was reading through that section today when working through the PEER course work, i've failed a few rcd's because they tripped out of time but worked perfectly well with the trip button, also how can you establish if you have one thats nuisance tripping if you haven't got the "specialist (wtf)" test equipment to run a 1/2t test?

Some strange quirks in the AS/NZS3000 for sure... Onto the ETSA section tomorrow (whatever that is)
