Moving to the UK Electrical/Instrumentation qualification recognition.
I am moving to the UK later this year.
I have a QLD Electrical Fitter/Mechanic Licence and a second trade in Instrumentation and an Advanced Diploma in Industrial Automation. I have worked in London before and I know I can get a Job but I want to be able to apply for the good jobs and get them. What extra qualifications will I need to get to be fully recognised in the UK ? I want to do the UK Electrical Standards course. I am going to be angling for Off Shore Oil and Gas or heavy industry. |

Hi Giles, I am in UK qualified E&I tech just moved to Sydney from uk so i am in a similar position however doing it the other way round. I have worked on and offshore around Europe in oil n gas petro chem, power stations etc. The electrical regulation is called "18th edition" if working doing install you may be required this certificate To work in hazardous areas you will need something called "compex" this is your equivalent as EEHA to get on most power stations and onshore heavy industrial sites you will need a "CCNSG CARD" - this is a 3 day health and safety course. If you want to work in automation in factory's etc on process lines etc a Good CV and your Australian quals will probably get you on these jobs (there is a lot of work in the uk for automation guys with dual trade) I do not believe it is as strict as Australia with regards to overseas qualifications i have had to take a major step back and go back to electrical installation here in oz till i get my gap training over with! its going to take me at least 12 months. The offshore think in the UK is very closed book to be honest it took me 18 month to get my first trip and that was only down to because a guy i know recommended me! although things might have changed, For offshore you will need ya survival and mist - 5 day course. Hope this helps if you have anymore questions give us a shout. Mikey |
