What does this mean?
I still need to apply for licence or what? A little confused.
I wish to advise the NSW Local Trades Committee/s have considered your application and granted you an
ARTC in the classification/s of: Electrical Mechanic.

Re: Just checked the TRA website.
yeah mate you still need to apply for licence. getting your trade recognised by the tra is only half way there. you still need to do the exams and possibly do 6 months experience to get your licence. Have a look at some of the stuff about Peer in adelaide on the forum as it is by far the quickest and easiest way to do it.

Jockstar;
from the UL there are two routes you can apply for migration 1st TRA where your skills are assessed & if all OK you get the ARTC (Australian Recognized Trade Certificate), or you apply via Vetassess & get the OTSR from the UK then when here you must do courses for the Australian wiring rules.
this is from Vet they are the new system doing applications for migration
have a read of this below this is direct from vet in Melbourne
The VETASSESS consortium conducts assessments for trades people migrating to Australia under the general skilled migration visa program.
The successful candidates receive an OTSR (Offshore Technical Skills Record) and they do not have to obtain an ARTC (Australian Recognised Trade Certificate) from TRA (Trades Recognition Australia) to obtain a Certificate III in electrotechnology – electrician. To gain the electrician qualification, that is used for licensing purposes, they are required to complete the gap training.
The gap training has been developed by the industry skills council responsible for the electro technology industry, ee-oz http://ee-oz.com.au/ and is delivered by registered training organizations. Details of the gap training advice for electrician can be found in .pdf format here:

if you have gone down the vet route you cannot jump ship at all so your stuck with vet sorry to say mate.
have a read of this info i got from Vet in Melbourne.

I also asked the man about this frigging time duration for the logbook, i said your??? killing people, all people want to do is provide for their families.
His reply was, if a company employs a person going the log book & say after 5 weeks are happy with this persons skills the company can sign of the book end of story. then i asked about the Gap, this can be done at a recognized Tafe(College) in the state you’re going to live in it can be done over 5 days he told me, or the 160 hours Total time can also be spread over time doing projects at home so its not actually 160 hours class time.
Be Careful with this NOT every Tafe do this training.????
Then i said training agency's have been telling people you won’t get a restricted license without the ARTC, his words Rubbish.
I only got a call from him due to me sending in an email abusing the shit out of them all. I also spoke to a woman at Vet she confirmed people require the ARTC, that’s why he was calling to put it all right she had stuffed up.
This is the main bloke for Victoria in the Vet government dept in Parliament house Melbourne. i thought shit they have stuffed up if this bloke is phoning me direct.
1st Vet from the UK.
2nd OTSR from the UK
3rd wiring rules exam (PEER in S/A Is the quickest)
4th log book & gap can be achieved as mentioned above
5th Full license from the Energy Safe licensing dept of the state you’re living in.
I would still recommend you do the distance electrical learning course form the UK via PEER it cost just under $900 they send all books to your home this also includes the exam when here.
The exam is over two day’s 1st day revision (Do It), 2nd day exam all day theory. other agencies in each state offer training however it can take as long as 6 months to get the license through them, I’ve heard from people saying it may be done in W/A over 5 days but nobody has come up with any real answers or what’s involved, also the cost is very high in W/A.
Once you have the full license, you will also need the OH&S cert you can do this at PEER 1 x day x 6 hours most union sites won’t allow you on site without this, so it’s well worth it.
This system is a lot easier than being frigged about on a continual basis.

Pom from Oz.
Thanks mate, im actually in Melbourne on a working visa have been working for a company as a TA and have done the oh&s course. I go back to the uk in october for the vet practical, and when i get my visa my boss has said if they have work i have a job. Because i have been working for the company for five months do you think they would be able to sign it off straight away when i get back over here or would i have to work for a while? If i do the the distance training then do the exam what does that get me? and who do i go through to do the log book? Still a bit confussed? If i want to live/work in melbourne dont i have to do the course here or can you get the licience changed over? Thanks mate really appreciate it.

Re: Just checked the TRA website.
once youve got your visa sorted apply to the tra as an aussie resident for an artc as an electrical mechanic and do your licence at peer.com.au ( its cuts out doing the log book bit ) so it costs slightly more but its much quicker,
the choice as they say sir is yours
