Jobs on 475 visa

Hi all has any body on here had any experience with the 475 visa? I am looking to go to WA around Perth area, don't want to be in the remote area's.
What type of jobs where offered? And are they any good , money ect?

I'm just a bit concerned that I am going to be treated like a lackey and just given the crap, I have loads of experience but age is against me a bit 42.

Can anyone help please thanks

i'm on a 457 visa and feel like a second class citizen at times, but thats only because the boss tells you to go find another job if you don't like it when i know I can't.

money is good however and the lifestyle is great here in sydney.
no regrets at all for coming.
one recruitment guy (irish) told me your nothing but a dog to these people until you have PR, however you just have to prove yourself.

I would be interested to know what your being offered with the 457 as i have been thinking about using this rout to get some decent staff. I run a small electrical contracting firm in Rockingham sor Perth and finding the right staff to help build the business and reap the rewards is an issue. Most seem to be chasing the big bucks the mines pay and frankly arnt as well qualified as they should be. We are members of necawa and they have given us some incite in to it but its a big step. I also feel that 457 visas can be abused by employers, brother in-law was treated very badly, and I would hate for someone to feel the same way about me.

Hi JohnyD thanks for your honest answer, this is something that concerns me very much being that they think they have you by the short and curly's. However im sure there must be some other people out there that have had better experiences.

I have just been told by my agent that things are going to change in July and that there is a new path called skill select for people like myself who are stuggling with getting the required points. This sounds like a much better way of getting a PR visa which gives myself and my family a bit more security and confidence. Ive just prepared my CV and my agent is going to circulate it ASAP to put the feelers out.

It sounds that you are struggling to find decent staff, what sort of contracting are you involved with? Is there plenty of local work around your area? My family and I visited Australia two christmases ago and loved it. we didnt go into Rockhingham but drove through Secret Harbour, Mandurah ect.

Mostly domectic and all the electricians i know are having the same problems with staff regardless of the areas they specialise in. What people dont see are the hidden costs involved when running your own buisness. i've been at it five years and this is the first year we will be turning over a decent profit for ourselfs as staff always come first.
