My hubby got his job in 4 days. Working supervised, well on a site with another spark!!
He got his license within 6 weeks and we've been here a year and he now has a job as a leading hand.
Theres still lots of work here for sparks.
Cheers

Oh that is good, because I have heard some real horror stories, with sparks not being able to find work, because of not having the license, do you mind me asking how he went about getting that job

But we know another 4 sparks out here who have all come across within the last 2 years and not one have had a problem getting their license, or a job.
Basically, he just applied to an ad from Seek and the rest is history. Although he left this job when he felt comfy going into a Lead Hand position. Previous job also involved travelling to some remote sites (not his thing)
Good luck

Thankyou very much, do you know if there is any preparation you can do from England, did your hubby, start his license process, or apply for any jobs before he left

I've been applying for jobs through seek and have never got a response. Maybe because i'm not in the country yet.

More than likely.
We have been here 3 months and no one will touch my OH until he has a licence. This is because there is no-one to be able to watch over him, so they need him to be able to work on his own, which he can't do without the bloody licence
But he's on his course starting next week for 3 and half weeks, and then hopefully he will be able to get the damn thing

hi , im new to this site but have been reading with interest. have got TRA which i filled in an agent just forwarded ,and by the looks of it will have to wait till i in oz before getting artc , we are heading for perth, been reading elsewhere that the 2391 doesnt count for much, im primarirly a maintenance spark with does HV authorised person count for much ? or jib registration card ? our visa app went in october so hoping it wont be too long before we can get out there and get thru this licence minefield . best of luck im sure he will walk thru it
Your should ring energy safety and ask them about your 2391 as John was trained years ago,and its not the same.
Michelle from Balga Tafe is the person to contact about the exams and stuff you need to book the exams though her,she is helpfull, just ask what you want to know.
Let us know if you need any help.
