Hi,

Its no problem at all getting British television here. You just need a large sky dish, size depends on where you live, could be anything from 2.7metres to 4 metres.
We have a 2.7 and get all the free view programmes. You will need a sky box and a freeview card. We bought our cards when we first moved here 5 years ago and were told they might need replacing after a year but all 3 still work fine. They cost us 100cyp each.
If you only want one telly and you have neighbours with a sky dish you can often pay them to use one of the ports on their dish. Most of the dishes have 4 ports.
Your tv should work fine here.

Re: Television

Thank you Veroncia, to be honest if I can get reasonable broadband I can stream direct to the TV from sites such as BBC iplayer and 4 on demand. That said I do enjoy the UK History channel and others so need the free to view setup. I've no interest in sport channels at all.

When I lived in Paphos in the 80's VHS tapes of films were dirt cheap, how about DVD's these days?

I am afraid I cant tell you how much a dvd costs as we don't bother with them. We find we have plenty to watch with the freeview programmes we get.
We can keep up with all of our favourite British progs plus loads of shows like CSI and NCIS which have become a little bit addicted to:o

Wonder whats changed then? I certainly had to have my Cyprus television modified before I returned to the UK. Do you use yours through a box or DVD player?

In Spain we have a 2.4 metre dish, which gives very good results on Freesat
but the picture quality goes down the pan after about 6pm on BBC2 and one or two other channels. Does this happen in Cyprus as well ??

Check if you can get iPlayer, I'm not sure you can in Cyprus.

The more modern your TV, the less chance there is of having to modify it. We have Cypriot tv from a normal aerial and all TV's work fine.

We also have a large (ish) dish and a sky box, we kept are card and it works fine. Just can't pick up BBC and ITV channels, we're too far east (near Napa):o
