Probate in Cyprus

Hi can anyone offer help?. My friend's husband has died suddenly. They live in UK but have a home of their own in Limassol area of Cyprus. There is a will in Cyprus leaving everything to her but she is frightened about sorting the Probate out there - can anyone recommend someone and also guide re what has to be done? Many thanks for any help at all. victorsj

I'm not sure of the whole process, but when you make a will in Cyprus it is usually made out using a Cypriot lawyer and then witnessed by a judge, sealed...with the old fashioned red stuff and placed in the court safe. The lawyer who makes the will out is often the nominated executer and would deal with matters. I have often seen advertisments in the Cyprus Mail etc for probate actions but have not known of any personally. Did the UK will mention any Cyprus or foreign assets? I made a will out in Limassol Cyprus but have subsequently disposed of all assets there. The lawyer I used was recommended and is still in business as far as I am aware. If you appoint someone I would want to agree a fee first, not a percentage! and start from there. If you want I could dig out my files...I think and find the name as its now some years ago.

I am a solicitor and I worked in Cyprus for a few years. For what my opinion is worth, I can recommend Law Office of Louise Zambartas in Limassol. Louise is an English Solicitor and a Cyprus Lawyer and she knows her stuff.
