new to Cyprus

Hi I'm Steve, I have just arrived in Cyprus and wow do i feel alone, seems like everyone is speaking russian or other languages, i don't mind but feel really out of it, i would like to meet up with anyone for a drink and make a few friends, just thought i would get straight into work but discovered its a holiday, so don't know what to do with myself right now, are there any brits or english speaking people who want to meet up, i will leave my mobile number on here in case, it's Snip, it`s not a good idea to post your number on and open forum. give me a ring
thanks steve

Hi Tim
It would be great to meet up, i'm a young 50, but told i look 10 years younger which is rather nice, and act younger than that lol, let me know when you are settled and want to meet up, it's so strange when you are over here at first i guess, just hope it changes. I would like to maybe one day meet a nice lady here, but thats an early wish, and right now it would be good to make a few friends and mates to socialise with. thanks for reply tim, e-mail if you want on (Snip)

Do either of you men mind me asking what your reasons were/are for moving to Cyprus?? I want to do it but my husband and son are not keen, they want to go to France but we went a while ago and it's just totally dead over there. I think my son would love it if he gave it a chance.

We have friends who went to live in France but very soon left as they had so many problems with the language (even though they speak some French and were working on improving it) and found they were not made to feel welcome.
They moved here to Cyprus and are very happy and have no intention of leaving.

Hi Veronica, I will show my husband your message. To be fair my son doesn't really want to move anywhere he wants to be in England to attend university which I understand to an extent but I have a degree myself and it's not really done me much good and I think some real life experience would be just as valuable. He can attend uni anytime, he was five years old himself when I went!! Do you know of any families with older teenagers and what their experiences have been? I would feel so much better about him having a social life in Cyprus than here, it's not safe to be out in England and we live in an elderly seaside town but still violence and crime is rife.

Cyprus has one of the lowst crime rates in Europe but of course there is still some crime and with laying off of many eastern european workers there is a possiblity that the crime rate will rise in the future, however I dont believe it will ever get as bad as some areas of the UK are.
I feel safe walking on the streets of paphos at night which I never felt when I lived in the Uk even though we lived in a small market town.

Evening Ladies..

I spent some time in Cyprus last year and fell in love. It has a wonderful climate and a nice pace of life as i am sure you are all aware, for me, i have just had a gutull of England in general, what a sorry state of affairs. Cyprus is the best spot in the EU by miles and miles as it geographically is Asia. and 90% of cyps speak English so no worries there. I would recommend it to anyone from all walks of life as there truly is something for everyone, I`m sure it has its problems too, but when weighing it up....what are we all waiting for? 350 days of sun a year compared to 5 in the uk? (slight exagg) and yes i always felt safe there, even if there are an array of crazy weapons for sale in most high streets!! for ornamental purposes i am sure. Your son would love it and would never want to return. The nightlife is awesome, without the pretentious attitude of the English, cant describe how liberating it is to go clubbing in shorts!! I did get bored of the party party very quickly as i am in my 30`s now, but i soon found plenty to do, the scenery is magic, the beaches are some of the best i have seen, i just loved it, and i have never been anywhere that has "got" me like this lil island in the Med..

DO IT!!!

Timmy :)
