Help please!
Hi, we are just in the process of purchasing a holiday home in Alethriko with a possibility of moving permanently. The apartment is furnished but we obviously need to either bring over or purchase a lot of stuff such as kitchen cupboard stuff, cleaning materials, linen, pictures, DVD player etc etc etc.
What would people suggest is the best way to go about it please? We won't have enough to fill a container. A friend of mine is an ex-pat in France and they have a facility for UK companies such as Ikea, Next etc to deliver to a warehouse facility in Dover who then arrange for the goods to be delivered to a central point in France. Is there such a facility near to Larnaca or Nicosia that you are aware of? Thanks, my husband is flying over in 2 weeks to set the place up so it would be ideal to get it done by then. Roidy x:confused: |
Re: Help please!
Exciting times!!
You don't need to fill a container, companies will take part filled containers that are then shared with other loads going to the same place. You can also use air cargo. Its a bit more expensive, but if you don't have a lot, it might be worth looking at. There is an Ikea in Cyprus, its a little more expensive than the Ikea's in the UK, but getting stuff there would save in the expense of shipping. You might want to consider buying electrical stuff in the UK and bringing over. Electrics are still very expensive here. If you have any other questions, ask away! |

If you're buying a new home, this means your starting a new life, so I would flog all the old gear and buy new over there and some of your UK electrics might not work properly in Cyprus anyway? (I might be wrong)
Mike We were told at the time by Zanussi engineers that our fridges would last about 6 months. They are still working, and we've been here over 5 years! |

electrics will all work fine. Some older models of TV's need a slight adjustment, this this can be done easily. We brought everything with us, and everything worked.

Why do you need a job? I hear that you can work for the government and stay at home, so I've been told, and get well paid for it including a rent free house.:)

mmmm, little thing called "pride". The only time I was unemployed was when we moved to Cyprus, and even that only lasted 2 weeks.

It was my attempt at a little humour to cheer you up, but I know where your coming from, I too have worked all my life, I've never claimed the dole in my life, I would not know how to go about it.
