Cyprus personal taxes for expat early-retiree family
Hi all,
i am researching the pros/cons of expat early-retirement in Cyprus.
I would like to learn about tax obligations for an expat early-retiree family in Cyprus, and i was hoping you can help clarify some things.
Our financial background is fairly simple:
- We have never been Cyprus residents before.
- We do not have any pensions.
- All our income is derived from offshore(non-Cyprus): unit trusts, stocks, bond interest, and bank account interest.
Question-
Does Cyprus have any taxes on expats residing in Cyprus who have all their income derived from offshore(non-Cyprus):
- capital gains
- bonds income
- stock dividends
- bank interest

Re: Cyprus personal taxes for expat early-retiree family
Having just popped in from a neighbouring forum, I note that there have been very few posts recently on the Cyprus forum. Whether that means there has been a mass exodus of expats back to UK or elsewhere I have no idea.
A similar question to your own was asked back in July last year which met with no replies.
The following post from 2016 gave a little tax related info, but unsure if those replies are still current.
Tax breaks for new immigrants.
You could try expatforum.com which still appears to get recent postings in the relevant Cyprus section.

Hey mate
taxes in Cyprus depend on various legislations/acts that cover whether someone is will pay tax and how much. Critical factors are residency and domicility.
For your case the quick response is:
If you live in Cyprus you must inform the tax office here and get a Cyprus Tax number. Inform your UK tax office (there is a specific form).
Capital gains from non Cyprus sources do not have a tax in Cyprus but should have a tax where the asset is located (definetely).
Bonds, stocks, units are tax free (interest or gain from selling) - note interest is tax free for a period of time for you
Bank interest is tax free for a period of time.
I hope the above helps
