Default Cyprus - Cost of Living

Hello,

Myself, partner and 6 year old daughter are seriously considering moving to Cyprus and have been for some time.

My job allows me to work remotely which makes the potential move slightly easier, however I would like to get an idea of average monthly costs in Cyprus for all utility bills etc assuming our rent is between 1200-1500 euros per month it would be good to know costs of all other items for an average family.

I just want to make sure i have all the information needed, when googling these type of things the information differs so hoping for some help.

Thank you in advance.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
I can't help on the cost of living front, but first check your Visa requirements at the High Commission of Cyprus. The fact that you are "partners", and presumably not legally bound?, means that you'll need separate Visas. Will your partner be intending to work?
If you were intending to come to work remotely in France, for example, you'd have to set up a French business structure and bill your UK company and at least one other client. I presume that Cyprus applies the "rule of the bum", too, i.e. where you're sitting working, there you will pay income tax and Social Security contributions. An alternative would be for your employers to arrange with the country's S.S. to keep you on their payroll, but from what I've read on the Forum, this is very expensive for them....
First, research the Visa issue on the official Site! And check on schooling for your daughter - she's the right age to learn the language, make friends and integrate, but think ahead 12 years when she'll have to decide on further studies or work, and maybe leave Cyprus.....
This advice isn't coming from some one on the spot, but Visas and children's schooling are universal EU issues...
Good luck with your plans!

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Just for clarity I hold an Irish passport so can move freely in Europe.

Just keen to know cost of living based on a family living cyprus, so those with 1st hand experience would really help.

Kind regards

No personal experience now but know people who travelled there frequently. They said It was never really that cheap in recent years and a lot of Russians had taken over the island. Might have changed since war.

Climate might be another issue now and these things seem to put people off, maybe a reason why fewer familes from Northern Europe head that way.
